Think Your Skincare Stopped Working. Here’s Why (and How to Fix It)

You’re using the same products you’ve always loved, but suddenly your glow is gone. Maybe your skin feels different, or even the product smells a little “off.” We often hear this around this time of the year, some customers even ask if we’ve changed our formulas (spoiler: we haven’t!). So why does it feel like your skincare has stopped working, and what can you do about it?

Seasonal Skin Shifts

Your skin is a bit of a drama queen, it changes as the seasons do.

  • Cold, dry air = tightness, flakiness, more hydration needed.

  • Warm, humid weather = oilier skin, lighter textures feel better.

  • Spring = pollen, allergies, and extra sensitivity.

What worked beautifully in winter might suddenly feel too heavy now. That’s why we always recommend doing our 2-minute skin quiz each season.  It makes sure you’re on track and using the right products for right now.

Has Your Skin Adapted?

Sometimes it’s not the weather, it’s your skin (sorry! It happens to all of us). Over time, it can get used to certain ingredients. That “wow” factor you noticed at first might feel less obvious.

If your skin barrier is stressed (think: over exfoliation, harsh cleansers, or way too hot showers), products can sting or feel like they’ve lost their magic.

Our advice? Go back to basics. Take a break from new add-ins (skincare or makeup), give your skin a few makeup-free days, and get those hands (or your Gua Sha) working with some daily massage. It’s simple, feels amazing, and honestly does wonders for skin health.

Changes in Colour or Smell

We know the panic: “This smells different, did you change the formula?!”

Here’s the truth: if we change a formula, we legally have to tell you (and our regulators). So no secrets here! A few things can explain why it smells or looks slightly different:

  • Weather shifts can affect how you perceive fragrance.

  • Natural ingredients can vary slightly from batch to batch.

  • Your own skin can change how a product feels or smells when applied.

So if your favourite suddenly seems “different,” chances are it’s just the environment — not us pulling a sneaky reformulation.

Quick Fixes

You don’t need to start your whole skincare stash from scratch. A few small tweaks can make all the difference:

  • Adjust seasonally: swap richer creams for lighter hydrators in summer, and do the opposite in winter.

  • Reset: strip it back to cleanser, moisturiser, and SPF for a week. Then slowly bring in the extras.

  • Support your barrier: daily massage with your hands or Gua Sha = circulation boost, stress relief, and glow factor.

  • Check your habits: over exfoliating, skipping SPF, or late nights? Your skin will dob you in every time.

The Bottom Line

Your skincare most likely hasn’t stopped working, your skin (or the environment around it) has simply changed. With a couple of tweaks, you can get things back on track and keep that glow strong all year round.
